| Portland Press Herald "Bob Keyes" Arts Editor As a realistic painter, Sturniolo is conditioned to reproduce what he sees. But he also has an artist's license, and in this case he's working for someone "Portland Pirates" who have a vested interest not only in the sale of the paintings, but also the image they create. |

| The Fireboat painting was given as a gift to the Portland Fire Department and the City of Portland in the Fall of 2003. The unveiling took place outside at Buoy Park on Commercial Street in front of the Ferry Terminal and where the Fire Boat is docked. My inspiration came from a visit to see the fireboat with a few of the crew from the Portland Fire Department. I was told that the boat would soon be retired in the near future. I then decided to create a painting that captured this unique boat with the City of Portland skyline in the background. This boat has guarded our city and harbors for many years. Two television news crews came to cover the unveiling on a bright crisp early fall day. Chief Fred LaMontagne greeted me for the celebration and a small crowd was also on hand for the unveiling. Shown Left: Portland Fire Chief Fred LaMontagne and Greg Sturniolo shake hands as the chief accepts the painting. The painting now hangs at City Hall in Portland Maine on permanent collection. |
